Forever encased in Steam

I'm uploading something now so you all don't think I've died. I've been working hard on artwork this past winter, but most of this time has been client pieces that I can't show anyone.
So this is an FLCL piece I've been noodling with for about 3 months now and I'm just stuck. I don't dislike it, but I'm not in love with the composition either. Every time I work on it now I just can't make any progress. I go around in circles. I look at it, and the mood I wanted to capture is not there. It doesn't say FLCl to me. FLCL is over the top zaniness with undertones of melancholy. I think I'm done with this particular piece. I'm abandoning it. I want to start over a new FLCL piece to make posters of for the upcoming convention season.

This is why it's so much harder for me to work on pieces from series I love ;_;
